Maple Sugar Time

19418 min 16 secFilm: Documentaire

Réalisation: Stanley Hawes

This short made in 1941 traces the production of maple sugar in Quebec's Eastern Townships from the time of collecting the sap to producing the cakes of maple sugar. We see various traditional production techniques which date back to a time when Quebec's first "habitants" learned the process from local native peoples. The charming narration is spiced with much of the vocabulary which is specific to this unique Quebec industry. This archival film reflects the social and cultural values and beliefs prevalent at the time of production.
