The concluding part of The Battle of Vimy Ridge series recounts the attack itself, capturing moments of heroism, tragedy, desperation, and humour amid one of Canada's most famous battles. Approximately 260,000 Allied and German troops had died at Vimy Ridge in the north of France over a three-year period during World War I. On April 9, 1917 Canadian soldiers proceeded almost precisely on schedule, capturing most of Vimy Ridge within a matter of hours. The video includes poignant remembrances from both Canadian and German soldiers. The success at Vimy proved that the time for futile glory in war was past - that careful planning was the key to winning battles.
