French-speaking Newfoundlanders settled on this rocky outpost some two hundred and fifty years ago. They have always faced a double battle: against the elements and against assimilation into the English-speaking majority. Their language and traditions have been handed down from generation to generation. This is their story, filmed in their surroundings.
