200446 min 45 secFilm: Documentaire
6 members of the Bentley/Johnson family disappear in Wells Grey National Park without a trace in August of 1982. The massive area is combed thoroughly but no clues are found that could lead to the families. Over a month later, tipped off by a hiker picking mushrooms, they found the burned out Johnson vehicle, in it are the remains of all 6 family members, burnt beyond recognition. The 4 adults are determined to have been piled in the back seat and the 2 young girls are found in the trunk. A massive manhunt for the killer begins which focuses on the missing camper of the Bentley's, presumably taken by the killer. Two long haired French speaking suspects are soon being sought, but even after constructin a replica of the missing vehicle and driving it across the country followed by a massive media campaign which included a re-enactment of the crime scene no suspects are found. October 13, 1983, the burned out camper is found less than 30 km from the original crime scene, they now focus on locals, the kind who knew the area intimately. David Shearing was singled out and coxed into "having a chat" with lead investigator Mike Eastham. During the interview Shearing broke down and confessed to killing the 6 people.
