The Film/Video/Computer Convergence. Do parallel lines indeed converge? In the age of the microchip, will film and video continue to run through our culture on a separate-but-equal basis? Or are we facing the slow demise of the chemical medium in the face of a computerized electronic hegemony in the market place? It is possibly simpler than that. What we may be watching is the evolution of an entirely new idiom: film and video giving way to the concept of moving-picture technology. How will the international creative community put this new idiom to work? How will it affect the formation and training of our technicians, our production executives, our distributors and exhibitors? This symposium focusses on the future of the film/video convergence and all its implications, serving as a philosophical wrap-up to the whole conference.
