Bridge Under the Ocean

It provides a shipside view of the laying of the first trans-Atlantic telephone cable from Oban, Scotland, to Clarenville, Newfoundland--an accomplishment equalled only by the laying of the first telegraph cable ninety years earlier. The film concludes with ceremonies on both sides of the Atlantic when, for the first time in history, the human voice was carried by direct wire across two thousand miles of ocean.
