Beyond - Surviving the Reality of Sexual Abuse

Beyond - Surviving the Reality of Sexual Abuse is the story of Sally, a young woman who is sexually assaulted by someone whom she meets casually in a social situation. The presentation follows Sally through the actual experience of being sexually assaulted, seeking immediate support from a friend, then from a sexual assault crisis line where she is given some information about the choices that are available to her. Sally chooses to go to a hospital emergency room for medical attention, to have a forensic examination, which collects physical evidence for legal purposes, and to report the incident to the police. The offender is subsequently charged with sexual assault and, after a period of time, the case is presented in court, touching on the revictimization of victims of violence at the hands of the justice system.
