Produced by the National Film Board of Canada for the Canadian Department of Manpower and Immigration.

This film describes the Local Initiatives Program designed by the Canadian government to help diminish the adverse effects of seasonal unemployment. The film interviews the people involved in some projects, as well as those behind the scenes, and shows how they work. By the same token it depicts a society where, because of increased automation, regular jobs are becoming fewer and new ways of working are being sought. It is a look at future alternatives.
